 Kim and Sharklady Adventures crew are arguably the most experienced operator in the industry having pioneered the cage diving in 1992 - long before the burgeoning multi-million rand business it is today. Kim tries to give her clients more than they come for. It’s not just about adrenalin, face to face and the t-shirt she says energetically. "It must be a learning experience, people must leave with a better understanding of this apex predator".
Kim "Sharklady" Maclean and Terry Mccarthy, both staunch conservationists, founded The White Shark Embassy Education Centre in Gansbaai in 2009 - aiming to raise awareness about the Great White Shark. Their mission statement is as follows:
Owing to massive negative media publicity over the years, sharks have become one of the most maligned, misunderstood, even hated animals on our fragile planet. They have been pursued, hunted and indiscriminately slaughtered over the years to the point where many species are endangered.
If we can dispel some of the hype and myth and the fear which surrounds these magnificent animals, and even if through our committment we only introduce some element of objective perspective to the people whom we come into contact with, then we have at least made some contribution to maintaining the natural balance in at least one ecosystem in our communal home, earth.
