Barrydale

Barrydale on the Route 62Barrydale is indeed the Gateway to the Overberg and Klein Karoo. Today the timeless countryside charm welcomes you with the friendliness of its people. Sunny days prevail for most of the year, with a little frost in winter. As the valleys are filled to the brim with fertility and the excellent climate, it makes Barrydale a winemakers' dream with premium wines and brandy produced here.

Tours on a tractor on fruit and wine farms are also available with light lunches served in the farm garden. Walking through orchards and fruit picking in season is also an option to stretch the legs after a long drive. Another way to stretch your legs would be to take one of the hiking or horse trails in the area.

Wine farm produce is sent to Barrydale Cooperative Winery and Distillery where choice wines such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are bottled. Visitors are welcome to enjoy tasting, cellar tours and wine sales.

There are local arts and crafts on sale at various craft outlets in and around Barrydale. A walk through Barrydale streets will take you back in time as you spot shops like The Old Trading Post where antiques, collectables, cottage furniture and gifts can fill up the bags for your back seat. Restaurants serve fine country cuisine made from local produce. Accommodation ranges from bed & breakfast to farm accommodation.
