SA JKA Karate Hermanus has continued to grow in our aim to foster the fundamental principles of Justice, Equality, Human Rights, Human Dignity, Unity, Freedom, Trust, Development, and Excellence; regardless of race, colour, sex, religion, creed or social or economic status.
On the development side I continue to instruct in Hawston, Zwehile and have the Mount Pleasant kids now training at the main Dojo. Twenty students from Okkie Smuts have also been sponsored R10 000 by our sponsors (Coroma Doors; Maxitec; PSG Konsult and Maintuin-a-Gard’n). I would like to thank the sponsors for there on going support in the growth of SA JKA.
SIYAMTHEMBA FOKAZI
Siyamthemba started karate at the Houmoed Dojo in Zwehile with me in 2006 and has excelled in his training and is now a Senior Brown Belt and currently been employed by the Main Dojo. His employment at the Dojo is based on a tradition in Japan whereby a student with potential of been a top black belt will be taken in by the Sensei and gain the title of Gohai and he will work at the Dojo and train for free under the Sensei.
He achieved Double Gold at the SA JKA SA’s and Double Gold at the SA JKA Southern Regional Championships in Bafoking. Siyamthemba is currently training in 15 classes per week and this includes assisting my self in instruction. A lot of hard training is been put in, in preparation for this years Boland Trials and hopefully he will make the team for the 2010 Karate South Africa(KSA) National Trials in Bloemfontein this year.
My long term plan with the assistance of Sponsers is to allow Siyamthemba to take over the Houmoed Dojo and to also start teaching at the Nursery Schools in Zwehile where we can start at grass routes thus filtering the kids through to the Houmoed Dojo.

Our summer Gasshuku started off with great enthusiasm on Friday night with a fairly hard beach training session attended by 90 karate-ka. Then it was off to the showers and ready for dinner, which was followed by the talent show event. This turned out to be great fun and laughter.
With bad weather expected with winds exceeding 45 knots we decided to start training early on Saturday morning. We managed to train until 11h45 before we were forced to into shelter by the high winds and sand. A quick lunch followed by pack-up as the weather had turned for the worst. It was an experience for all.
We may have to change the summer Gasshuku to February and the winter Gasshuku to the end of the year as climate change dictates.

Dear Friends!
It would be awesome if you could assist us with our ‘CHOC 2009 Project’ – “Scrub a dub dub”
There is a great need for personal hygiene items for the cancer kiddies whilst in hospital. They often only arrive with the clothes they have on their backs!
This year the idea is that each child will have his/her own personal toiletry bag with a few necessities which will be replaced once a month or when needed. Although these items are part of our everyday lives, they are absolute luxuries to some of these children, and not only will this assist in their healing , but it will be their own, and that is a great gift to these kids.
These are some of the items we are collecting and taking to the hospitals
Items for the children’s goodie bags:
1) Bars of soap
2) Face cloths
3) Body cream
4) Tooth brushes
5) Tooth paste
6) Shampoo
7) Combs
8) Ear buddies
9) Deodorant
10) Towels
We know that times are tough on every one , and know that it’s not always possible to help, but if you are able to assist in anyway, please let me know or you can drop the donations off at the JKA Hermanus Dojo at reception.
Alternatively you can sms me on:
Liezel – 083-655-9701
Thank you for your support and kindness and helping to make a difference in these special children’s lives.
God Bless and love.
The CHOC Team!
These are the provisional results for the championships held at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg. Well done Hermanus.
