Abagold's abalone farms are situated in a nature lover's paradise, 140km from Cape Town, in the small fishing village of Hermanus. Whale gazing, diving, fishing and bird watching are just some of the pursuits that can be enjoyed in this beautiful, scenic village, while the mild climate and beautiful beaches make it a perfect year-round tourist destination.

The South African South Coast has clean, healthy water, ideal temperatures and a natural abundance of premium abalone (Haliotis Midae), world renowned for appearance, taste and texture. Where better to base one of the country's leading exporters of quality, cultured abalone?

Behind the success of Abagold lies the pioneering research and breeding efforts, which began in Hermanus Old Harbour in 1984, to perfect the farming of South African abalone on land. Painstaking research coupled with hard work and dedication resulted in the formation of Hermanus Abalone (Pty) Ltd in 1995 and by 1999 the new venture sold its first 100kg of abalone. In 2002 the name was officially changed to Abagold (Pty) Ltd, coinciding with a new growth phase in the exciting life of this young company rooted in the bedrock of the Western Cape.

At present the two farms, Sea View and Bergsig, produces in excess of 150 tons per annum. Using technology and experience gained over the years, success has translated into top quality products for clients all over the world and a sustainable livelihood for the local Hermanus community.
